Outreach

This summer institute is designed to assist teachers in teaching effective literacy skills. It is based on the early literacy program at UES, which teaches children to read in a context of authentic literate activities that help them systematically learn the necessary skills of reading and writing. Weaving together research and practice, the institute includes a combination of presentations, reflection, and school/team planning. Participants return to UES in the fall for two follow-up days to observe lessons and debrief with classroom teachers. Additionally, participants receive assistance in planning for implementation in their classrooms. Participation is limited in order to provide for more intensive collaboration.
